Sad Day at Countrypolitan.com Countrypolitan.com is sad to report that Chet Atkins, founder of the Nashville Sound and Country Music Hall of Fame member, has passed away at his Nashville home today, June 30th, at approx. 10 a.m. CST, at the age of 77. He had been battling cancer. Funeral services will be held July 3rd, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ryman Auditorium.
