Here's the latest news in the world of Countrypolitan music: Bill Anderson has announced the talent line-up for the 5th Annual City Lights Festival to be held in his adopted hometown of Commerce, Georgia June 28- 29th, a line-up that features two members of the Country Music Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame's newest inductee, Charley Pride, headlines the big outdoor concert on Friday night June 29th along with longtime member Little Jimmy Dickens, comedian T. Bubba Bechtol, and local gospel group, The Jordans. Thursday night's Meet 'n' Greet dinner will feature accoustical performances by Grand Ole Opry stars Billy Walker and Jeannie Seely. Bill will perform both nights as well. The Festival expands to include an opening golf tournament on June 28th and ends with an all-day street festival on June 30th. Proceeds are earmarked for the construction of a local Performing Arts Center. For further information call the City Lights toll free hotline at 1-877-826-8482. On March 19, 2001, Junior Brown will appear on a new Showtime series starring Chris Isaak. He and Chris will duet on Highway Patrol. The Chris Isaak Show is a series on Showtime. The comedic show makes fun of Isaak's life as a rock musician. Allison Moorer is scheduled to appear on Austin City Limits on March 31. Check your local PBS listings for times. Country music legend Loretta Lynn will take center stage for a special evening of live music in A&E's Live By Request Starring Loretta Lynn, airing live from Nashville, Tennessee, on Thursday, March 15th. An encore presentation will air on Saturday, March 24. Check your local listings and catch it if you can. Bob Heatherly, president of the recently formed Music City Records, announces the signing of Country Music Hall of Fame Artist Charley Pride to the labelšs roster. Pride joins Texas artist Sonny Burgess on the label. Pridešs first release on Music City Records, set to be shipped on April 3rd, will be a fifteen-song album of Jim Reeves remakes. This CD will simply be titled Charley Pridešs Tribute to Jim Reeves. In making the announcement, Heatherly noted, "We are very excited to have an artist of Charleyšs caliber on the label. With credits that include several Grammy awards, CMA Entertainer of the Year honors, American Music Awards and his recent induction into the Hall of Fame, this tribute album will illustrate his respect and devotion to the basics of country music. It will be a treat for music fans and enthusiasts everywhere." The First Lady of Country Music will be standing by her men again this fall in the Ryman Auditorium. Stand By Your Man: The Tammy Wynette Story, a new warts-and-all bio-musical loosely based on the late country diva's 1979 autobiography of the same title, will run Sept. 13-Oct. 28 in the Ryman. Tickets ($12-$32) are on sale now at the Ryman box office, at TicketMaster outlets, online at www.ryman.com or by calling 615-889-3060. Here's what happened this month in Countrypolitan music history: March 4, 1996 - Minnie Pearl passed away at the age of 83 due to complications from a stroke suffered a few years earlier. March 5, 1963 - Patsy Cline, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Cowboy Copas and Randy Hughes died in a tragic airplane crash near Camden, TN. March , 10 1920 - Kenneth C. "Jethro" Burns was born in Knoxville, Tenn.
